Fluorescence excitation spectroscopy of the ~ A 1 A 00 ~ X 1 A 0 system of jet - cooled HCCl in the region 5150 – 6050 A

We report new measurements of the laser induced fluorescence spectra of the HCCl ~ A1A00 ~ X 1A0 system in the 5150–6150 A region, obtained under jet-cooled conditions using a pulsed discharge source. The pure bending states (0,m2,0) with m 0 2 1⁄4 5–8 and combination states (0,m2,m 0 3) with m 0 2 1⁄4 4–6 and m3 1⁄4 1,2 have been measured and the rotational structure fit to a asymmetric top rotational Hamiltonian, which yielded precise values for the band origins and effective rotational constants. Fluorescence lifetimes were measured for rotational levels in each band. 2004 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

A plane subsonic jet was subjected to periodic oscillations in the near nozzle region by a twin vane system. During excitation, the jet was found to spread significantly and entrain mass much more than its steady counterpart.
